De natuurlijke immuniteit bij vrouwen is 80 à 90%, zodat maximum 10 à 20% zou kunnen voordeel halen uit een vaccinatie. (14)


Chang (1970) 6 en Horstman (1970) 7 toonden aan dat meer dan 50% van de gevaccineerden opnieuw geïnfecteerd wordt vergeleken met slechts 5% van de mensen met een natuurlijke immuniteit. (5)


Polk et al (11) verklaren dat een voorgeschiedenis van rubella-immunizatie geen betrouwbare parameter is voor het voorspellen of een individu al dan niet immuun zal zijn.


In 1974, in Wyoming (VS), trad een epidemie op 9 maanden na een uitgebreide vaccinatiecampagne. (22)


In 1986 blijft de graad van seronegativiteit bij volwassenen tussen de 10 en de 20%, dus op hetzelfde niveau als voor het inschakelen van de vaccinaties. (23)


Lage antistofspiegels, zoals men die vaak vindt bij gevaccineerden, beschermen niet tegen de ziekte.


Andere studies bevestigen het voorkomen van rubella bij gevaccineerde individuen. (12)


Rubella-embryopathie kan voorkomen bij vrouwen die (kort) tevoren gevaccineerd waren (1, 2, 3). Vaccinatieprogramma's hebben deze kwaal geen halt toegeroepen. (5) “Deze kinderen zijn slechts een fractie van het eigenlijke aantal omdat veel kinderen die sensorieel-neurologische doofheid als enig defect vertonen niet gediagnosticeerd worden als gevallen van congenitale rubella, tenzij er een gedocumenteerde voorgeschiedenis is van rubella bij de moeder tijdens de zwangerschap.” (5) Herinfectie met rubella is een ernstig risico voor zwangeren, vooral bij vrouwen die hun immuniteit te danken hebben aan een vaccinatie.
